Forgiving God
I believe God is a forgiving God. God is in the forgiving business. Have you ever met a salesman who cannot stop selling. God is that kind of forgiving God. God who cannot stop forgiving. A one-track mind God constantly forgiving—wanting to forgive at every opportunity.
I used to think we had to go to God asking for forgiveness, even had get to myself in order, take steps to prove to God that I deserved forgiveness.
And yet, I have never met that God. The salesman who cannot quit selling does not wait for you to invite him to sell to you. God is always there, offering: Well, this would be a good time for me to forgive you. How about I give you some forgiveness I just happen to have right here with me?
We live within a God who wants us to recognize and accept God’s forgiveness, that forgiveness is always there—waiting. Sort of like there is peanut butter and fruit always on hand as a snack when you have children in the house. Forgiveness is always out on the counter—without asking. God knows we are going to need it.
We are basked in forgiveness. There is no test, no hoops to jump through. Because God is a forgiving God. Some would say God is a God who desires our worship. I do not agree. God is a God who first and foremost wants us to know we are forgiven—already.
God who knows our prayer before we pray it knows our faults and brokenness even before it happens. And forgives it. Because God is a forgiving God.
